Bank holiday closing, and review week opening hours

Cathal Brugha St Library will close on Friday 26th October at 5pm, and will reopen on Tuesday 30th October at 9pm.

From Tuesday 30th we will be open normal term-time hours, that is 9am to 9pm on Tuesday and Wednesday, 9am -5.30pm on Thursday and 9am to 5pm on Friday.

Term-time opening starts again!

From Monday 17th September, Cathal Brugha St Library resumes term-time opening hours.

These are as follows: 
                                 Mon, Tues, Wed, 9am - 9pm;
                                 Thurs, 9am - 5.30pm;
                                 Fri, 9am - 5pm.

In addition, the Library will open Saturdays close to exams: December 1, 8 and 15, January 5 and 12, and May 4, 11 and 18, from 10am to 5pm in each case.

Readers needing to use Library facilities on Thursday evenings, and on Saturdays other than those mentioned above, can access other DIT Library sites such as Bolton St and Aungier St.  See this link for opening hours of other DIT sites: http://www.dit.ie/library/openinghours/#d.en.25080

*New* Group Study Room for the Library

Need somewhere to work on that group project or to study together? Cathal Brugha Street library is pleased to announce the addition of a new group study room available for all registered students. The room is at the back of the library and has a large desk and seating for up to 6 people. There are network points available if students wish to use their own laptops.

This room can be booked for a maximum of 2 hours at a time, and must be booked in advance by filling out this booking form.

Changes to off-campus access to DIT databases

From July 2012, some DIT databases will be accessible from outside DIT buildings by the same DIT username and password used to log into DIT computers (and email) while most others will still be accessed by Student number and library PIN number (obtainable at library desk). A few databases, as well as past exam papers, will need other passwords.

El Bulli at the Lighthouse

El Bulli, more than once voted the World's Best Restaurant, received over 1 million reservation requests each year before it closed down this year. This film, now showing at the Lighthouse cinema, follows its 3 star Michelin chef owner Ferran Adria, as he and 2 of his other chefs come together to create their new menu for the following season (something they did every year while the restaurant closed down for the winter months). This is a documentary not to be missed by budding chefs and those fascinated by the minds behind the most influential restaurant in the world.

New group study area on the way!

In response to frequent requests from students for an area within the library where groups of students can work together, Cathal Brugha St Library is now setting up just such a place.

A room near the photocopying-printing area has now been freed up and is being equipped for use by groups of 6 students. Advance booking of time-slots will be required. It is anticipated that the room will be available for use in the coming semester.

We are also pleased to announce that the mezzanine individual study area has been refurbished with new carpets and better-spaced study desks.

Summer opening hours from June 5th

From Tuesday June 5th, Cathal Brugha St Library will be operating Summer opening hours. We will be open from 9.30 to 17.15 Monday to Friday, with no late night or Saturday openings.

Our last late night of term is Thursday 31st May, and our last Saturday opening is May 26th. We will also be closed on Monday June 4th for the June holiday.

We will resume term-time opening in mid-September.

The foodies are gathering!

This June 5th and 6th, DIT Cathal Brugha St will play host to the inaugural Dublin Gastonomy Symposium, which will have the theme "Gastronomy: past, present and future."

Mairtin Mac Con Iomaire, Chair of the Symposium organising committee has said that "The study of gastronomy is uniquely multidisciplinary encompassing the arts, humanities, and the natural and social sciences, and all are welcome to attend this symposium to dine, debate and interact with likeminded foodies."

Keynote speaker will be Darra Goldstein, editor in Chief of the journal Gastronomica.

This looks set to be both a convivial and a scholarly occasion!
