Here at Cathal Brugha St Library, e-textbooks are now part of our repertoire.
We now have a range of e-books including such standards as Clay's handbook of environmental health, Stephen Page's Tourism management, Chris Cooper's Tourism: principles and practice, Glenn Bowdin's Events management, John Cousins Food and beverage management and Stanley Cauvain's Baking problems solved.
Search for your desired textbook on the catalogue, and if it comes up as an "electronic resource" then you will probably be able to read it as an e-book on the screen in front of you.
There are legal restrictions on copying and downloading, but having the textbook to read on-screen is surely a real step forward!

Cookbooks are here to stay (?)

A blogger confirms what we in this library are always saying: cookbooks are not going anywhere you know!

Free food!
Apparently there is free food to be had in Dublin. You just have to go looking (or foraging in fact) for it. An article in the Irish Times yesterday - The City where the wild things are - describes what is available out there and how it can be cooked. See the article by Catherine Cleary and maybe you could find your own windfalls.

Chocolate is good for you!
Good news for chocoholics everywhere. Apparently chocolate is good for us after all according to this Guardian article. Scientists in Cambridge studied the relationship between chocolate consumption and heart disease and found that eating chocloate is good for us because it is relaxing. So chill out everyone and enjoy those chocolately treats.

Catalogue downtime, end of August
The DIT Library Millennium system, which controls the circulation and catalogue systems, will need to go down on Tuesday 30th and Wednesday 31st August for a system upgrade.
This means that the Library Opac catalogue will be unavailable for those 2 days, and that books will be issued and returned manually.
In addition, some re-carpeting of Library office and counter areas (but not of reading or other users' areas) is due to start this coming week.
However, there is no reason for readers to worry. All our services will continue to be delivered, albeit the old-fashioned way, and Library staff will be on hand at all times to help and advise readers.
