Cathal Brugha Street library would like to remind readers that we will be CLOSED on Monday 1st May as it is a public holiday.

The library will be open on Saturday April 29th  from 10am - 5pm.

The library will open again on Tuesday 2nd May at 9am when normal hours, including evening openings, will resume.

RE-ARRANGEMENT OF PRINTED JOURNALS AT CATHAL BRUGHA ST.

Cathal Brugha Street library has begun re-shelving printed journals in order of Dewey Classification number, in place of the title alphabetical arrangement we have had up to now. The new class numbers are virtually the same as those already used for shelving our books.

This change is in preparation for the move to the new Grangegorman library, where all journals will be arranged in class number order.

Printed guides will be available showing the class number for all our print journals, and the same class numbers will appear on the catalogue.

Library staff will be happy to help you find any journal on request.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused to readers during the re-shelving process.

LIBRARY OPENING, MONDAY 24 APRIL

Cathal Brugha Street library will open at 9.30 am on Monday 24 April (instead of at 9 am) in order to facilitate a brief staff meeting.

The library will then remain open until 9 pm as normal.

We apologise to readers for any inconvenience caused.

EASTER OPENING AND CLOSING

We would like to remind all our readers that Cathal Brugha Street Library will close at 5pm on Thursday 13th April, and will re-open at 9am on Tuesday 18th April.


Normal term-time hours, including evenings, will resume on that Tuesday.

ALL ABOARD AT CATHAL BRUGHA STREET

"All aboard" is a series of events all about digital life, digital literacy, digital skills and more, running in DIT from Monday 3rd April to Friday 7th April. The event at DIT is co-ordinated jointly by the Learning, Teaching and Technology Centre and DIT Library Services, with help from DIT Students Union.

Here are the events taking place on TUESDAY 4TH APRIL in Cathal Brugha St:

First, there were publications, 

now there is data! 

Datasets are becoming an integral part of the scholarly publication process. 

This is being promoted by Funders who want to maximise the potential of their investment but also by the European Commission who want to see datasets visible and capable of being shared. The objective is to ensure that no one is re-inventing the wheel and that datasets can find new applications beyond the original vision of the initial researchers.

Datasets, both internally within DIT and externally, are now as important an output as the publications and are equally capable of being cited.  High quality datasets require a data management plan and more information on that is available here. There is now a DATA REPOSITORY on Arrow http://arrow.dit.ie/data/ where datasets can be uploaded in the normal way. It is accepted that not all datasets can be open access and sharable but even when not available, they should be at least findable. Therefore, information about the dataset can be uploaded as long as the dataset owner agrees that they can be contacted about the material. This is a pilot programme and your participation would be greatly appreciated.

ST PATRICK'S DAY

Just to remind readers that Friday March 17th is the "Paddy's day" holiday and the library will be closed.

We are, however, open on Thursday 16th, and on subsequent Thursdays, until 9pm. Also, the library will begin opening on Saturdays from March 25th, from 10 am to 5 pm.
